Carry forward — narrowing a list to what they picked

Ask which of twelve features someone uses, then ask them to rank only those. Carry-forward builds the second question's list from the first question's answer.

Setting it up

  1. 1
Add the second question after the one it should read from

Carry-forward can only pull from a question above it.

  2. 2
Open the Pipe panel and find “Carry forward selections”
  3. 3
    Choose the source question
  4. 4
    Choose what to fill

Options for a normal question; rows or columns for a Matrix.

Carry forward
One question, a shorter list

The question appears once, with only the options they selected.

One answer recorded.

Use for ranking, rating, or picking a favourite from their own shortlist.

Loop & Merge
The same question, several times

The question repeats once per selection.

One answer per item, each tagged to that item.

Use when you need to ask the same thing about each one in turn.

Note
An empty source hides the question

If the respondent selected nothing, there is no list to build, so the question is skipped rather than shown empty. Required validation skips with it, so nobody gets stuck on a question with no options.
